ABOUT THE MONROE COALITION

Our Mission

The Monroe County Coalition for Drug-Free Communities (MCCDFC) works to reduce substance abuse in Monroe County through collaboration among community partners targeting community conditions that contribute to substance abuse.

Through collaboration, education, and empowerment, we strive to build a stronger, healthier Monroe County — one where youth and families have the knowledge, support, and resources they need to thrive.

Our work centers on youth leadership. We believe young people have the power to make lasting change, and we’re proud to help them become ambassadors of prevention in their schools and communities.

To achieve this mission, we work to implement evidence-based programs including:

  • Operation Snowball – promoting leadership, resilience, and positive choices among youth.

  • Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute – empowering teens to lead drug-free lives and make a difference in their schools.

Our Vision

The vision of the Monroe County Coalition for Drug-Free Communities is that each of our communities supports the wellness and safety of every one of its members by eliminating the abuse of drugs and alcohol.

MCCDFC was organized to facilitate stakeholder collaboration — uniting schools, parents, youth, health professionals, law enforcement, and local leaders — to create lasting changes in the community conditions that contribute to substance use and other health challenges.

Our History

Our story began in late 2013, when a group of concerned citizens and community professionals came together to discuss how to better address youth substance use in Monroe County.

What started as informal meetings soon grew into a committed partnership — and in 2014, the Monroe County Coalition for Drug-Free Communities was officially formed.

From the beginning, our focus has been on collaboration and prevention. During our first general membership meeting, we established our name, mission, and vision, and began using data from the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) to guide our strategies.

Since then, we’ve continued to rely on the biennial IYS results to shape our programs, measure progress, and ensure that our efforts remain responsive to the real needs of Monroe County’s youth and families.

Together for a Healthier Monroe County

Today, MCCDFC remains a coalition of dedicated community members — schools, parents, youth, law enforcement, health professionals, and local leaders — all working toward one shared goal:
A safe, supportive, and drug-free Monroe County.
